Number recorded on PAS database: 24
Fede (clasped hands) rings date back to the Roman period but the majority of examples recorded on the PAS database are 17th – 18th C. The name is derived from the Italian phrase ‘mani in fede’ (‘hands clasped in faith’). They typically have a pair of hands emerging from a cuff which may be ornate or plain. The enamel which might have been present originally is usually missing from examples recovered from the soil.
